What's actually in Enervia

Six active ingredients, one capsule a day, 30 capsules per bottle. No proprietary blends hiding the detail, and no filler ingredients added to lengthen the label.

The short answer

Enervia contains six actives: DHA from wild cod liver oil and phosphatidylserine for brain cell membranes, choline as the raw material for acetylcholine, plus lion's mane, vitamin B12 and astaxanthin. It contains fish and no caffeine, and every amount is printed on the label rather than hidden in a blend.

The formula at a glance

Enervia is built around one idea: your brain is roughly 60% fat by dry weight, and the membranes that let nerve cells signal to one another are made from the fats and nutrients your diet supplies. Three ingredients address that structure and signalling directly. The other three are there for support, and we are careful on this page to say which is which.

Everything below is listed with its role, so you can compare the label against anything else you are considering. If a competing product will not tell you how much of each ingredient is inside, that is usually because the answer is unflattering.

DHA from wild cod liver oil

DHA is a long-chain omega-3 fatty acid and a structural component of neuronal membranes. In Great Britain, DHA carries an authorised claim: it contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function, with a beneficial effect obtained at a daily intake of 250mg.

The dietary problem is simple. UK guidance is two portions of fish a week, one of them oily, and national surveys show most adults eat considerably less. If salmon, mackerel, sardines or trout are not a weekly habit, your DHA intake is likely well below what that advice assumes.

We use cod liver oil, the traditional food source, rather than a cheap synthetic concentrate. Cod liver oil also carries naturally occurring vitamins A and D — part of the reason generations of British families kept a bottle in the cupboard. It is refined and tested before it reaches the capsule, and it is why Enervia is unsuitable for anyone with a fish allergy.

Phosphatidylserine

Phosphatidylserine is a phospholipid concentrated in nerve tissue, where it helps maintain membrane fluidity — how readily signals cross the cell boundary. It is one of the more heavily studied nutrients in the context of memory and age-related cognitive change.

It is also expensive, which is exactly why it is the ingredient budget formulas quietly drop or reduce to a token dusting. Because it is structural rather than stimulant, levels shift over weeks, so it is assessed sensibly at the three-month mark rather than in a fortnight.

Choline

Structure alone is not enough — cells have to talk to each other. Your body converts choline into acetylcholine, the neurotransmitter most closely associated with memory and learning. Choline is classed as an essential nutrient, meaning the body cannot make enough on its own.

Most UK adults fall below the recommended intake. The richest common food sources are eggs and liver, and neither is a daily habit for the majority of people. Pairing choline with the two structural nutrients is the whole design idea: supply what the membranes are built from, and what the signals are built from, at the same time and every day.

Lion's mane mushroom

Lion's mane is a culinary and medicinal mushroom with a long history of use in East Asia, and it now appears in most cognitive-support formulas sold in Britain. We include it as part of the traditional side of the formula, and we will be straight with you about its status: it does not carry an authorised health claim in Great Britain, so nobody may legally claim it improves memory or focus.

That is not the same as saying it does nothing — it is an active area of research. It does mean that if you see a brand making firm promises about lion's mane, they are breaking advertising rules, and it is fair to wonder what else they are willing to overstate.

If you have a mushroom allergy, or have reacted to fungal ingredients before, this formula is not for you.

Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 is the ingredient in Enervia with the fullest set of authorised claims in Great Britain. It contributes to normal psychological function, to the normal functioning of the nervous system, and to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. Those are the exact permitted wordings, and we do not stretch them.

B12 comes almost entirely from animal foods, so intake tends to be low among people eating little meat, fish or dairy. Absorption also declines with age, and some medicines — including long-term acid reducers and metformin — can reduce it further. If you have been told you are B12 deficient, that needs a GP and possibly injections, not a food supplement.

Astaxanthin

Astaxanthin is a red-orange carotenoid produced by microalgae. It is the pigment that makes wild salmon and shrimp pink, and it is one of the better-studied dietary antioxidants. Like lion's mane, it carries no authorised cognitive claim in Great Britain, so it appears here as a supporting ingredient described honestly rather than a headline.

Being fat-soluble, it is absorbed better alongside a meal — one of the reasons the whole capsule is designed to be taken with food.

What is deliberately not in it

  • No caffeine or other stimulants, so it cannot disturb sleep or build tolerance.
  • No proprietary blend — blends usually exist to hide how little of the costly ingredients is present.
  • No added sugar and no artificial colours.
  • No cheap bulking agents added simply to lengthen the ingredients list.
  • No claims about dementia, Alzheimer's disease or reversing cognitive decline, because no supplement may lawfully make them.

If you see Enervia advertised with a celebrity endorsement, a BBC or NHS logo, or a claim about treating a medical condition, it is not us. Those pages are fakes built to harvest card details.

Allergens, suitability and who should check first

  • Contains fish (cod liver oil). Not suitable for anyone with a fish allergy.
  • Not suitable for vegetarians or vegans.
  • Contains mushroom extract — avoid if you have a fungal allergy.
  • Not intended for anyone under 18, or during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Speak to your GP or pharmacist first if you take prescribed medication, particularly blood thinners such as warfarin, or if you are under medical care.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

If your memory or concentration has changed suddenly or markedly, see a GP before buying any supplement. A capsule that delays a diagnosis has done you harm even if it is harmless in itself.

How to take it, and how to store it

One capsule daily with food and a glass of water, ideally in the morning. The fat-soluble nutrients — DHA, astaxanthin and the vitamins A and D carried in cod liver oil — are absorbed better alongside a meal. Do not exceed the stated dose; there is no benefit to doubling up, and cod liver oil carries vitamin A, which should not be taken to excess.

Keep the bottle closed, at room temperature and out of direct sunlight. Missed a day? Take the next capsule as usual rather than taking two. There is no loading phase and no need to cycle on and off — the formula is designed as a steady daily baseline, the way many people take vitamin D through a British winter.

How the label compares with a caffeine pill and a multivitamin

The table below is the comparison we would want if we were the ones spending the money: not which product feels strongest on day one, but what is actually on each label and when it is fair to judge it.

This is likely to suit you if

  • You want to read the actual formula before buying, not a blend name.
  • You rarely eat oily fish twice a week, so your DHA intake is likely low.
  • You would rather have a food-source cod liver oil than a synthetic concentrate.
  • You want one capsule a day with no caffeine and no effect on sleep.

This is not for you if

  • You have a fish or mushroom allergy.
  • You are vegetarian or vegan — the DHA comes from cod liver oil.
  • You are under 18, pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • You already take a high-dose fish oil and a B12 supplement, and do not want to double up.
  • You are hoping for a same-day lift — there is nothing stimulant in the bottle.
